1780
+RR. March 24.  Thomas Watson enters 138 A in Mecklenburg Co on waters of Horse Br; border includes John Love's survey.  [G1]
+May.  Charleston, South Carolina falls to the British forces.
+June.  The Patriot forces, although outnumbered 3 to 1, rout the Loyalists at the Battle of Ramsour's Mill in what is now Lincoln County, NC, west of Charlotte.
+August.  British Lord Cornwallis leads British troops to decisive victory at Camden, South Carolina.  Preparations are made to move into North Carolina.
+September 26.  British commander Lord Cornwallis arrives in Charlotte.  He orders his soldiers to pillage the farms of the residents, who in return fire on his men and set fire to some of their own barns. During their time in Charlotte, the troops experience such hostility that Cornwallis refers to the place as a "hornet's nest of rebellion."
+October 7.  The Battle of Kings Mountain is won by soldiers from the Carolinas, Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia.

1781
+January.  Cowpens, South Carolina.  Gen. Daniel Morgan led the Patriot forces as they soundly defeated the British under Col. Banastre Tarleton.
+February.  Cowan's Ford, North Carolina.  Miles west of Charlotte, British troops led by Lord Cornwallis cross the Catawba River as the Patriot forces under Gen. William Lee Davidson try in vain to stop them. Davidson is killed and the Patriot forces scatter. Gen. Davidson is buried in secret of darkness and rainfall at Hopewell Presbyterian Church in western Mecklenburg County.
+March.  Guilford County, NC.  The Battle of Guilford Courthouse is a major encounter between Gen. Nathanael Greene's Patriots forces and the British forces led by Lord Cornwallis. Although the British claim victory, they sustain heavy losses, and can not remain in North Carolina as an occupying army.

+RR. January 16.  John Rogers enters 350 A in Mecklenburg Co on big Coldwater Cr; border includes John Love, David Purvine, Charles McCommon.  [G1]
